                                    Write Away in Rockaway

 

       Featuring many writers from the NW region, Write Away in Rockaway is an opportunity to celebrate the Northwest's rich literary tradition for book lovers of all ages!

This free event will be in the City Hall Civic Facility located at: 276 Hwy 101 S. Rockaway Beach, OR 97136.
Write Away in Rockaway
will
feature signings, chats with the authors and a chance to meet with fellow
book enthusiasts in the comfortable environs of Rockaway Beach. Everything from fiction, art and nonfiction books will be present and the authors of your favorite texts will be here to sign your copy and talk to you about the books you love. Come visit with these writers who are eager to talk about (and sell) their books; come and see what books are available to have signed and purchased.  There is no charge for most activities.

9 - 10:30      A Novel Experience-      

Writing a novel? Trying to finish one?  Probe into beginnings, character development, story development, and more. Get assistance with the task of editing. We will gently critique each others' written works.  Limited to 20.
                           D. M. Ulmer
  will be leading this workshop.

  

10:30-11:30    Deeper Description and Characterization -
In this one-hour interactive workshop, authors Carolyn J. Rose and Mike Nettleton look at the elements of vivid description, strong characterization, and unique author style.

11:30 -12:00    Veronica Esagui will read from her Veronica's Diary sequels: "The Journey of Innocence" and "Braving a New world."

12:00-12:30    Susan Kalior

12:30-1:00         Mike Nettleton  will read from Shotgun Start – just out on Kindle and coming as a paperback in late October.
  1:00-1:30         Carolyn J. Rose will read from An Uncertain Refuge

 

1:30-3:00  Creative Nonfiction Writing Workshop-Creative nonfiction may sound like an oxymoron, but it is the term used to describe fact-based writing told in a narrative manner. Personal essays, memoir and narrative journalism are all forms of creative nonfiction. We will read and discuss published selections of creative nonfiction. We will practice writing nonfiction by interviewing each other and critiquing each other’s work with the goal of improving its style, story and structure. Limited to 20.
                       Authors who will be leading this work shop are:
                          Jack Graves, 
Rebecca Harrison, and  April Thomas

 

3:00-4:30  Improvisation for Writers-Through improvisational theater you will gain familiarity with the building blocks of a story, and learn how to create well-rounded and believable characters with specific wants and needs. Limit 12.  Taught by Gemma Whelan

 

 4:30-5:30  Chat with writers and authors until we close the room; come back Sunday for more activities.

11-3pm   Authors' Fair 

                    During the Fair, writers will read and sign their books.
